No School
We welcome all voices in our school community. Here are a few ways to get involved.
Attend monthly meetings for Andrew Sibbald School Council and Andrew Sibbald Parent Association. Typically, these meetings rotate between Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.
Volunteer at school for Field Trips, Fun Lunch or other opportunities in your child’s classroom. All volunteers must follow CBE guidelines and complete a police check. For more information visit Volunteer Information page.
Donate items for monthly staff appreciation events. Each month, we organize snacks and occasionally lunches in the teacher’s lounge. You can bake or buy items to contribute and drop them off at the front office. Watch for a signup genius to come out each month and email staffappreciation@sibbaldparents.ca to add your name to the list.
Ongoing and special fundraising initiatives help provide additional resources and opportunities for students.
Each year, the school administration presents a wish list of items for the Parent Association to consider funding. Items include bus transportation for field trips, school residencies and extra supplies needed to maintain things like the fish tank to enhance the learning environment for all students at Sibbald. The Parent Association also pays for the Halloween Dance, Pancake Breakfast and supports other events held on campus.
We rotate between Tuesday and Wednesday nights each month. Meetings start at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons and typically last 1 to 1.5 hours. They are led by parents and the principal also provides an update on learning goals and progress. Attending these meetings is a great way to provide our feedback on school residences and field trips. You do not have to have a position to attend, everyone is welcome and the meetings are open to all.
Per CBE guidelines, the school council is an organization focused on fostering an open line of communication between the school administration and the school community. Everyone is invited to be involved in the school council. The group meets monthly with administration to provide feedback and minutes are recorded. A chair, vice chair and secretary are elected at the AGM in September.
The Parent Association is an organization focused on fundraising for the school. The Association’s meetings are held directly following the school council and the minutes are recorded separately. A President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer are elected at the AGM in September, as well as other appointed positions such as Fundraising/ Social Events, Fun Lunch, Teacher Appreciation and Learning Grounds.
Each year, the Andrew Sibbald Parent Association provides the funding for one school tshirt for each new student and new teacher to welcome them to Sibbald. Some years, we have additional spirit wear sales available in the spring time.
Over the years, the Andrew Sibbald Parents Association has hosted a variety of fundraisers from selling Apples to plants, each year is different. If you have a fundraising idea or would like to get more involved, please attend our monthly meetings where we decide which fundraisers will take place. Please note – fundraising is NOT required, it’s always optional for students and families to participate.
Per CBE guidelines, anyone who volunteers on campus must complete a Police Check. Please note – at the beginning of each school year it takes time to process all the volunteer applications, so be patient. For more information on the requirements and how to apply, please visit Volunteer Information page.
